Production I.G. hat sich die Rechte vom Verlag Kodansha gesichert, um den Ghost in the Shell-Stoff für ein Realfilm-Remake zu verkaufen, berichtet Variety.
Kodansha veröffentlichte Ghost in the Shell als Manga von Masamune Shirow 1989. Production I.G. hat daraus 1995 eine sehr erfolgreiche Anime-Verfilmung gemacht, der zuletzt ein zweiter Teil namens Ghost in the Shell 2 - Innocence folgte. Auch eine Serie, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, wurde verwirklicht.
